2012 BMW G650GS

For 2012, BMW will keep their single-cylinder G650GS essentially unchanged from 2011. The core element (the 652cc ‘thumper’ engine) of the smallest of the GS family has remained pretty much the same since 2009 but the rest of the bike was tweaked and refined to make it more competitive in 2011 thus removing the need to update anything for the 2012 model year. One important piece of information to note is that the G650GS is no longer available with the black and red seat from the factory. All G650’s will now get the black and grey seat, which we always thought looked better anyways ;) If you’re looking for a way to enter the exciting world of BMW dual-sporting or just want a practical mode of transportation that is plenty of fun on a twisty road, the G650GS is the bike for you.

Although very little has changed compared to the 2011 G650 we thought some of you might like to better understand what was changed with the ‘facelift’ G650GS. To review, 2011 G650GS featured a much more aggressive look thanks to reworked body panels, a new gas tank (still housed underneath the seat), an asymetric headlight, two-tone seat and alloy wheels. As on the 2010 G650GS, BMW equipped all 2011’s with ABS (anti-lock brakes) and heated grips.

With the new bodywork also came a number of new accessories that are now readily available for 2011 and 2012 G650GS’s. These pictures show a G650GS equipped with the BMW Vario Side Cases that have been used on the F650GS and F800GS over the past couple of years. Additionally, BMW offers a Top Case and a BMW ‘Smuggler Seat’ that touring 650 riders can equip to maximize storage capacity.

Thanks to excellent modern styling and the proven ‘bones’ of the G650GS we are very confident that you’ll quickly fall in love with this lil’ GS. We will be updating this space as pricing information becomes available in the coming weeks but for the time being please enjoy the pics and contact us if you have any questions about the 2012 G650GS (or any other BMW motorcycle for that matter). Our sales department can be reached at 415-503-9944 or via e-mail at mcsales@bmwmotorcycle.com.
