2011 BMW G650GS Information/Preview Page

2011 BMW G650GS

Although we didn’t expect this, we are very pleased to announce that BMW will be offering a heavily revised and updated single-cylinder G650GS for 2011. The core element (the 652cc ‘thumper’ engine) of the smallest of the GS family will remain mostly unchanged but the rest of the bike gets tweaked and refined to make it competitive in 2011. Unfortunately, BMW hasn’t provided us all of the specifics on this motorcycle yet, but we do know some things that we can pass along with this first crop of images.

The new 2011 G650GS will feature a much more aggressive look thanks to reworked body panels, a new gas tank (still housed underneath the seat), an asymetric headlight, two-tone seat and alloy wheels. Rumor has it that BMW will make spoke wheels an option for riders planning to ride their G650 over rough and rugged terrain, but that has not been confirmed. As on the 2010 G650GS, BMW is expected to equip all 2011’s with ABS (anti-lock brakes) and heated grips. Given the image of the instruments cluster on the new G650, it appears that BMW has made allowances that would make it possible for the G650GS to be equipped with the on-board computer option found on most of their other bikes. We’ll have to wait for pricing information to confirm the status of all these options, but BMW is being very price conscious with this model and don’t plan on pricing themselves out of the market by adding too many options.

With the new bodywork will also come a number of new accessories that will become available to the 2011 G650GS. These pictures show a G650GS equipped with the BMW Vario Side Cases that have been used on the F650GS and F800GS over the past couple of years. Additionally, there appears to be a BMW Top Case and a BMW ‘Smuggler Seat’ that touring 650 riders can equip.

Thanks to excellent modern styling and the proven ‘bones’ of the G650GS we are very confident that this updated motorcycle will proudly carry the flag for BMW’s single-cylinder lineup for years to come. We will be updating this space in the coming months as additional information becomes available but for the time being please enjoy the pics.
